Halcyon Park - Then and Now Photos |
This photo is from the Historical Society of Bloomfield's collection. The man and woman are identified as Mr. and Mrs. Friend. The photo appeared in Remembering Essex: a pictorial history of Essex County, New Jersey, by John T. Cunningham (1995) with the following caption: An unidentified couple posed in about 1900, he with derby hat, cigar, and camera, she in white with an elaborate black hat. The tree, seemingly held up only by its bark, and the little pond to their right, were well-known in Halcyon Park, a Bloomfield real estate development that promised buyers "the life of a millionaire" at a low price.
